Does a Drumming Circle Want to be Formed?

DOES A SHAMANIC DRUMMING CIRCLE WANT TO BE FORMED?

A picture of me with my drum brought more than 100 responses within hours.
That response made me pause — not from excitement, but from curiosity.

Why this image?
Why now?

Ted Redsky wrote to me: “The drum will teach you.”
My reply was: Teach me what exactly?
He answered: “A lot about what it is and needs, and a lot about yourself.”

So I listened.
And what I felt was a quiet invitation — not to create a drumming circle, but to listen for one.

I also remembered something from Gene Key 55:
that humanity is slowly growing into a subtle field of connection — an invisible web beneath ordinary life where presence and rhythm can meet.
Perhaps the drum is one way to touch that field.

So I asked myself:
Does a drumming circle want to be formed now?

When I looked at the responses in this group, I felt a longing for connection —
not for instruction,
not for hierarchy,
but for a place where people can show up as they are:
with a drum, a heartbeat, a story, and a willingness to listen.

So I will begin with one circle — only one.
A simple gathering to feel, with the help of our drums, the sense of joy and freedom.
If it unfolds naturally, I will continue.
If not, I will be grateful for the moment of gathering.

The Intention

The intention of this circle is simple:
To discover what our drum is teaching us — about itself, and about ourselves.
Not to fix, not to impress, not to perform.
Just to listen honestly, and let the drum reveal what is true.

A few words about me

I am a mother, a grandmother, and the author of A Listening Grandmother.
For many years, I have facilitated storytelling and deep-listening circles — simple spaces where people speak honestly and are heard without advice, judgment, or interruption.

My work is gentle.
Rooted in presence.
I come with no teachings or techniques to impose — only a drum, an open heart, and respect for whatever emerges when people gather sincerely.

  • What a wonderful idea and I’m so excited that you have been inspired to do this. I’ve been wanting to do something like this in my own community.. I’m honored to be able to join in yours first to build confidence to allow the spirit of my drum to speak to me. I’m setting my attention to make it that day although that is my 60th birthday and not sure what the family has planned to celebrate with me but please keep me updated for the next one as I do know there will be many many more Drumming circles. I will be there in spirit, and even if I can’t play, I hope that I can at least join in to hear the beautiful sounds of your Drumm Circle..
    Many blessings!
